Concealed Carry Firearm Safety Training Course: January 25-26, 2025
Course lead by certified instructors and meets New York State's minimum course curriculum requirements. Certification recognized by Tompkins and Cortland county with more counties to follow.
Course Overview
Course available to all no matter your proficiency level. Beginners are welcomed and encouraged to attend. The course includes:
- 16 hours of in-person, live, classroom instruction
- 2 hours live fire training; &
- Certificate award after successfully passing the written exam and exhibit live fire proficiency
Classroom Instruction
During our classroom portion, we’ll cover topics relevant to legal handgun ownership and concealed carry, as well as carrying best practices with an emphasis on personal and public safety. We’ll cover and discuss:
- All aspects of safety and safe storage
- Applicable laws Federal and State
- Applying for and maintaining your carry permit
- Restricted areas
- Firearms and your home
- Responsible concealed carry
- Avoidance, de-escalation, and the use of force
- Law enforcement encounters and good citizenship
- Handgun transportation
- Suicide and harm reduction
- & other topics
Hands-On Training
After the laws and general best practice portion, we’ll discuss on safe gun handling, operations, and maintenance. Focusing on:
- General firearm safety
- Concealed carry safety
- Handgun types, operation, and function
- Proper holster configurations, retention strategies, and equipment selection
- Proper stance, grip, and aim
- Safe drawing, target acquisition, and re-holstering
- Handling ammunition, loading and unloading
- Range safety, range etiquette and continued live training
- Safe practice at home, dry fire techniques, and ways to stay involved with the shooting sport community
Live-Fire Range Proficiency
Once class time is complete, we’ll head to the range for some live-fire exercises where we’ll put into practice what we’ve learned and build skills:
- Safely loading and unloading a handgun
- Unholstering and holstering a loaded handgun
- Safely discharging the firearm
- Accuracy improvement techniques
- Safe handgun malfunction remediation

The total cost of the course is $300.00. We require minimum $100 down payment to complete registration and guarantee your seat in the class. To submit your payment and complete your registration, please follow the instructions below:

- Please allow 7-10 days for the checks to clear the bank. We will email you with confirmation once complete. There is a $35.00 fee imposed on all returned checks
- Checks will not be accepted on the day of the class. Day of class payments are cash or credit card only

- Location: Brooktondale Fire Department (786 Valley Rd, Brooktondale, NY 14817)
- Start/Stop Time: 9am-6pm (both days)
- Duration: 16 hours classroom, 2 hours range
- Registration fee includes lunch both days and refreshments throughout

Course Disclaimers
- Total Cost: $300.00 ($290.00 cash/check), $100.00 down payment due to guarantee seat
- Balance due must be paid prior to the class start
- $100 down payment is non-refundable
- Cancelation requests must be received no later than 7 days from the first course date
- $100 down payment is transferable to a friend or family member
- Trainee must complete all hours of training consecutively in order to pass the course
- Trainee may not: start late, leave early, or break up days across multiple courses
- In the event you are not able to attend the course dates selected, we will do our best to accommodate
- Your $100 down payment will put towards the next available scheduled course and you will have first option to attend
